This stream is designed to provide an opportunity for recent graduates who have earned a foreign post-secondary credential to achieve permanent residence status in Canada. To qualify for this stream, applicants must express a genuine intention to establish and run a business in the province of Alberta.

Level of Education | – Post-Secondary Degree
– Within the last 10 Years |
Work Experience | – Min. 6 months’ full time
– Managing or owning business |
Language Proficiency | – Have a post-secondary degree from post-secondary institution outside of a Canada (Education Certificate Assessment – ECA report required). |
Investment Requirement | – Invest in the business as per the below:
a) Minimum $50,000 for Regional Area or b) Minimum $100,000 for Urban Area. |
Business Requirement | – Either establish a new business in Alberta or acquire an existing business.
– Have business ownership a) Rural Area (Outside Calgary or Edmonton) at least 51% b) Inside Urban Area – at least 34%
– Operate within one of the qualifying businesses in priority industries: – Technology, Aerospace, Financial Services, Energy, Agriculture, Tourism, Life science, Pharmaceuticals |
Settlement Fund Requirements | – As per the IRCC’s requirement |
Business Performance Agreement | – Submit a business plan
– Enter into a business performance agreement |
Application Procedure
- Expression of Interest (EOI): Candidates create a profile on AINP’s portal. Top-ranked profiles are invited to submit a Business Application.
- Business Application: Invited candidates submit a complete application within 90 days.
- Evaluation: A designated agency assesses the business plan.
- Agreement and Approval: Candidates sign a Business Performance Agreement. Alberta issues a Business Application Approval Letter.
- Residency and Business: Candidates must reside and operate their business in Alberta for 12 months.
- Federal Application: After provincial nomination, applicants have six months to submit application for permanent residence.
