Refugee Sponsorship: Group of Five (G5)
Canada offers two primary categories of refugee sponsorship programs:
Refugee Sponsorship Programs in Canada
- Canada offers two main refugee sponsorship programs: Government-assisted and Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR).
Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR)
- Under PSR, there are three avenues: Community Sponsors (CS), Sponsorship Agreement Holders (SAH), and Groups of Five (G5).
Groups of Five (G5) Program
- G5 allows five Canadian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor at least one refugee for resettlement in Canada.
Responsibilities of G5 Sponsors
- G5 sponsors are responsible for providing settlement assistance and financial support.
Eligibility Criteria for G5 Sponsorship
- To qualify, sponsors must be 18+, Canadian, reside in the refugee’s community, and commit to financial and settlement aid.
Admissibility Criteria for Refugee Applicants
- Refugee applicants must meet admissibility criteria, including recognition as refugees by their asylum country and passing security, health, and criminality screenings.
