NS Occupations In Demand Stream

Under the “Occupations In-Demand” stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP), the province of Nova Scotia focuses on hiring individuals who have a job offer from a Nova Scotian employer in-demand field.

Occupation eligible for this program presently as a 3 Years pilot programs are:

  • NOC 33102 (Nurse Aides)
  • NOC 65200 (Food and beverage servers)
  • NOC 65201 (Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations)
  • NOC 65310 (Light duty cleaners)
  • NOC 73300 (Transport truck drivers)
  • NOC 73400 (Heavy equipment operators)
  • NOC 75110 (Construction trades helpers and laborer’s)

The list of eligible occupations will be subject to change during this program according to the labour needs of the Nova Scotia.

Age 21 to 55 Years
Job Offer –         Have a valid job offer from a Nova Scotia employer who must have operated in province for at least 2 Years, for the positions in the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes:

o   NOC 33102 (Nurse Aides)

o   NOC 65200 (Food and beverage servers)

o   NOC 65201 (Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations)

o   NOC 65310 (Light duty cleaners)

o   NOC 73300 (Transport truck drivers)

o   NOC 73400 (Heavy equipment operators)

o   NOC 75110 (Construction trades helpers and labourers)

 

–         Be paid a sufficient wage or salary for their job.

–         Have their employer demonstrate that reasonable efforts were made to hire a Canadian for the position, such as obtaining a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and LMIA exemption, or proving that the job position was posted on minimum 3 Canadian jobs boards for minimum 4 consecutive weeks.

Level of Education –         Have completed a minimum level of education equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma, and

–         Have the appropriate training, skills, or the accreditation for the job.

Work Experience –          Have at least 1 year of related work experience in their respective occupation (volunteer or unpaid internships are not eligible).

–          Within the last 5 Years.

Language Proficiency –          Provide language test results demonstrating a minimum proficiency level of CLB 4 (Canadian Language Benchmark) in either English or French

–          Even if they have first language as English or French.

Connection to Province –         Need not require any specific connection to the province.

 Application Procedure

      • Applications for the Nova Scotia Occupations In Demand category are accepted throughout the year, as long as the applicant meets the program requirements
      • The application form is available on the Nova Scotia immigration website, and applicants are required to submit their application electronically.
      • Successful candidates will receive a provincial nomination from Nova Scotia for permanent residence.
      • After receiving the nomination, applicants will be issued a Letter of Support, which can be used to apply for a temporary work permit to move to Nova Scotia and start working.
      • Applicants have six months from receiving the provincial nomination to submit a paper-based application for Canadian permanent residence to the designated application centre. The processing time for paper-based applications is typically 18 months.
