If you submit your study permit application on or after November 1, 2024, you must comply with the new requirements to qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
For Graduates of University Degree Programs (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral):
- Language Requirement: Demonstrate your English or French proficiency with at least Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 7 in English (CELPIP / IELTS / PTE Core: Pearson Test of English (opt for the PTE Core option) OR Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) 7 in French, across all four language areas (reading, writing, listening, speaking) – TEF Canada / TCF Canada).
- Field of Study Requirement: All fields of study are accepted, with no additional restrictions.
For Graduates of Other University Programs:
- Language Requirement: Similar to above, you must prove your language proficiency with a minimum of CLB 7 in English (CELPIP / IELTS / PTE Core: Pearson Test of English (opt for the PTE Core option) or NCLC 7 in French (TEF Canada / TCF Canada) in all four areas.
- Field of Study Requirement: You must have graduated from an eligible field of study.
For College or Other Non-University Programs:
- Language Requirement: You are required to demonstrate English or French proficiency with at least CLB 5 in English(CELPIP / IELTS / PTE Core: Pearson Test of English (opt for the PTE Core option) or NCLC 5 (TEF Canada / TCF Canada) in French in all four language areas.
- Field of Study Requirement: You must graduate from an eligible field of study.
Field of study requirement for PGWP
If your study program has a specific field of study requirement, you need to complete a program that is associated with occupations experiencing long-term shortages. These fields of study are classified into five main categories:
- Agriculture and Agri-food
- Healthcare
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
- Trade
- Transport
